Eco-solvent ink-a type of "mild" solvent ink-is a modern material used in outdoor inkjet printing, positioned between water-based and traditional solvent-based inks. It features a boiling point above 150°C and a closed-cup flash point exceeding 65°C. Characterized by low volatility, minimal toxicity (with an oral LD50 in rats of >3,000 mg/kg), and a high safety profile, these inks contain significantly lower levels of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) than traditional solvent-based alternatives. Formulated with environmentally friendly solvents, they eliminate the need for hazardous substances like cyclohexanone, allowing for use in production environments that do not require specialized ventilation systems. These inks combine the high-precision output of water-based inks with the versatility of solvent-based inks, which can adhere to uncoated media; they are ideal for printing on materials such as vehicle wraps, backlit films, leather, and wallpaper.

Eco-solvent inks are primarily designed for printers equipped with Epson printhead technology-such as the Mimaki JV3, Roland VersaArt RS-640, and Mutoh Falcon II-and utilize optimized solvent formulations and advanced filtration processes to enhance dot-placement accuracy.
